Board Members
David Blaney (Vice Chair)
A retired Bank Officer, David workded in the finance sector for 20 years. He is a committed individual and his many activities include Director of the South Uist Community Company, Treasurer to Uist Citizens Advice Bureau and the Sout Uist Development Group and a committee member of BTNM. He also represented his area as Councillor from 1994 - 2003. His experience in all these fields will bring a wealth of knowledge to the Shadow Board.
George Lonie (Chairman)
A councillor for the Coulregrein area since 1990, Chair of Housing committee since 1998 and as Chairman of the Hebridean Housing Partnership's Shadow Board George has a keen interest in the Stock Transfer process. He has been Chief Steward at Caledonian MacBrayne for 27 years and was a founder member of the Cearns Tenants Association (largest housing scheme in the Western Isles).
Jane Mackinnon
At present on the local Cobhair Bharraigh Management Committee and a Member of Tighean Innse Gall. Working part-time training at the local L C College on the 'Ulpan' Gaelic course. Jane would like to represent tenants more and eventually get tenants involved locally.
Angela Quail
Angela became a member of the Board in December 2005. She is also a member of the Bayhead Association and Residents Forum as well as being Secretary of the Stornoway Area Neighbourhood Watch Association. She ran her own florist business for many years, although retired she still gives flower arranging demonstrations to various community groups. Angela's wish is to contribute to the aims of the Partnership for the benefit of the community.
Kevin Paterson
Kevin Paterson is Chair of The Glasgow and Western Isles Regional Network as well as The Western Isles Forum of Tenant and Residents' Associations. He has been a tenant activist for many years and has recently been invited to join the Scottish Government's Ministerial Policy Review Group on Housing Policy. In addition to the above, he recently joined the Scottish Housing Regulator's Tenant Regulation Advisory Group. As a member of the Board, Kevin also holds the position of Treasurer and is Vice-Chair to two of our Standing Committees.
Helen Smith
Helen Smith has worked as a Money Advice Worker at the Citizens Advice Bureau since 2000. She had previously worked there as a volunteer and although now paid as a Money Advice Worker she still volunteers as a tutor/mentor. She has gained qualifications in numerous financial areas including housing & business debt. Helen previously held the position of Chairperson on the Newton Ward Residents Association, Vice-Chair of Muirneag Housing Association & TIG and is currently on the Supervisory Committee for the Western Isles Credit Union.
Daniel Coyle
A former coal miner, Danny is currently Chairman of the Uist Disability Access Panel. As a former member for 8 years of Buidheann Taigheadais Na Meadhanan (BTNM), he has the housing knowledge and experience required to help HHP tenants whilst serving on the Board.
Mairi Bremner
Mairi Bremner is a retired primary teacher and ran her own businesses with her husband. Mairi represented her area as Councillor for 24 years and was also a member on the Western Isles Health Board and BNTM. She is actively involved in the community and is interested in the welfare of both young and old. She is interested in housing matters and is keen to see the aims and ambitions of the Partnership implemented and promoted.
Alasdair Mackenzie
Alasdair is currently a Customer Service Advisor for TalkTalk. He was previously a Board Member on the Shadow Board and the main Board after formation of HHP, until 2007. Alasdair is also the Vice-Chair of the Western Isles Forum of Tenants and Residents Association (WIFTRA) and has been a tenant representative in his area for over 10 years.
Iain MacMillan
Iain MacMillan is currently the Director of Finance at the Lews Castle College and is an accountant by profession. He has spent the last twenty years in senior management roles in the public sector and has had senior leadership responsibility for a wide range of corporate services. Iain has previous experience as a Board Member with Lews Castle College and is also a Director of Acair Limited, Greenspacelive Limited and Steadfast Global. He is also a trustee of Martin’s Memorial Church of Scotland and the Lewis Presbytery of the Church of Scotland.
