Heating In Point – Our full response to a press enquiry from We Love Stornoway on 19 December 2022

Press Enquiry

We are hearing reports that tenants in Point are having problems with damp, mould and high energy costs since new heating was installed in their properties.

Does HHP have a comment to make on whether these complaints have been officially registered with you, and whether there are plans in hand to address them?

Response

Our records show a low level of complaints about heating systems in Point in contrast to the number mentioned in the article so we will work with the local Councillors to identify and address any gaps.

We have invested heavily in tenants’ homes over the last few years to improve the thermal efficiency of homes and to make them easier and more affordable for households to heat. The investment has been in new heating systems, mainly highly efficient air source heating, the installation or upgrading of insulation and fitting high quality windows in many homes. This is part of our continued drive to reduce levels of fuel poverty and we had made good progress on this before the recent massive increases in fuel costs. There will always be occasions where the new heating system does not perform as expected and we are working with tenants to find solutions.

Condensation and mould can affect any home and where this occurs we will work to address it.   However the causes can be complex and we work to identify these and take action as necessary.

Any tenant who is concerned about condensation, mould or their heating system should report this to our Customer Services team on 0300 123 0773 and we will do all we can to assist.
